“Chase What Matters”

If you want to see a pristine statement of corporate capitalism’s core cultural message, surf over to Chase’s credit card site, click “Watch TV Ads,” and look at “Real-Time Info Matters.”

Stunning, telling, pure, sick.

Most interesting that they pay millions to share this demented vision. Can Fascism be far behind this kind of greed and senility.

There are many to thank for this, but my choice Ronnie, Bed-Time-For-Bonzo, Reagan.

Ironically, the Chase commercial provides an appropriate lead-in to one of the biblical passages for Easter Sunday: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Collossians 3:1-2).

In other words, Chase what matters. Actually, what REALLY matters, you don’t have to chase at all. It is a free gift from God to those who believe in him. Not what you were expecting, I imagine, but it’s worth saying that God has the power to free us from all kinds of traps, consumer and otherwise.

Well, I’m always surprised at how little Christians care about the consumer trap. Last time I looked, the main figure of worship was running around tipping over money-tables and telling rich people to sell possessions and think upon camels walking through needle-eyes.

So, more power to you, John Henry.
